This is an original B2 Japanese poster, printed in 2006, for the release of “Tales from Earthsea” (ゲド戦記, lit. Ged’s War Chronicles).
“Tales from Earthsea” , based on the book series by Ursula K. Le Guin, is the debut feature of Hayao Miyazaki’s son, Goro Miyazaki.
The movie is loosely based on a combination of plots and characters from the first, third, and fourth books of the Earthsea series: “A Wizard of Earthsea”, “The Farthest Shore”, and “Tehanu”, all written by Ursula K. Le Guin, along with “The Journey of Shuna” by Hayao Miyazaki.
Undoubtedly, one of the most beautiful Studio Ghibli’s posters. The color is rich and deep, the composition of the piece is solid, complex, and brings you into its world. The crowded city makes you want to explore it, like a very warm, expressionist Mediterranean port.
It is based on Hayao Miyazaki’s rough sketch of Hort Town, where the film is set.
