This is an original B2 Japanese poster, printed in 2006, for the release of “Tales from Earthsea” (ゲド戦記, lit. Ged’s War Chronicles).
“Tales from Earthsea” , based on the book series by Ursula K. Le Guin, is the debut feature of Hayao Miyazaki’s son, Goro Miyazaki.
The movie is loosely based on a combination of plots and characters from the first, third, and fourth books of the Earthsea series: “A Wizard of Earthsea”, “The Farthest Shore”, and “Tehanu”, all written by Ursula K. Le Guin, along with “The Journey of Shuna” by Hayao Miyazaki.
Despite this impressive poster, dragons are virtually unseen in the movie. This climactic moment is really only one moment at the end, and from a dramatic point of view.
The drawing is based on a rough sketch Goro Miyazaki made from his impression of the original novels.
